It is always good to have extra batteries. And having an extra charger, to keep all your batteries fully charged is also a good practice. This chager is a little different from Nikon's orginal, because it does not have a power cord. The way the prongs fold at the botton of the case is very clever, but I do't know if it is strong enough to survive intensive use. Only time will tell, but for the moment this charger is doing the job of a more expensive Nikon charger.
