I bought this hood for Canon 50mm 1.8 and it fits very well on lens. Plastic quality is very good, not worse than original which is 10x much more expensive. If you shoot under the sun, buy it.

The problem with the 50mm 1.8 lens is that it doesn't have a hood mount. Hoods can either be mounted on the filter thread, like this one is, or on an adapter that screws into the filter thread. The former method, unfortunately, doesn't allow the use of filters, and the lens cap is more likely to fall off than not.
The hood itself is sturdy, and does its job, but if you want to use filters, you'll need to look elsewhere.
Cons:
Since it screws into the filter thread, filters can't be used at the same time, and the cap doesn't fit very securely.
