It's a tube with several sections that can be screwed to set distance. It's a better way to do macro than using filters.
Construction is good, all metal and no plastic. It's quite hard to get correct focus (you'll do better with zoom lens)
Pros:
Cheap and relatively effective. Great material (better than the plastic that we usually see on lens)
Cons:
No instructions. The release lever is a little screw that you can loose. I actually had trouble removing the lens for the first time thinking you needed to unscrew the lever when you only have to pull it down.
No way to set aperture.

I bought this wanting to play around with macro photography. It fits well on my Canon XS and 55-250is. The only issue i had was it doesn't lock into place well. You need to make sure it is tight before you start to take pictures. It is all metal construction, very solid. I would buy this product again. The only down side is that it doesn't allow you to auto focus. But it's fun to play around with.
Pros:
Build quality (all metal)
Works with Canon XS / 55-250is
Cons:
No auto focus
Doesn't lock into place nicely

Simple and easy way to do macro photos, will recommend to beginners and it can be useful for experts too.
Pros:
Easy and cheap way to try out macro photography without the cost of buying a dedicated macro lens; works on most cameras.

This is the 100% optimal chance to test this type of rings.
There is no autofocus and no change of aperture but with the aperture-test-trick (change aperture you need then press the test button hold it while screwing the lens) you can use it with small aperture also
Pros:
price price price
very stable
you can make ultra makro pictures (1 cm end in a full size picture.
Cons:
the size of the first row is too big
security lock not always snappes in.
a little bit hard to screw up and down the rings
